This idea that captured my attention while in Romania for some staff training recently: The idea that people are not following me, they are following me following Jesus. Just as he walked up to his first disciples and said “Come, follow me” so I too should seek out others and say to them “Come follow me as I follow Jesus.”

How freeing is this idea – that I do not have to be the wisest, most together person in order to disciple? In fact, I don’t have to be ready or holy or mature I just have to be following Jesus. The purpose of my discipling is to point people to Jesus; not to make them more like me, but to help them become more like him, and maybe they’ll even help me along the way!
